These unique varieties are commonly known as Fancy, Exotic, or Hybrid Tropical Hibiscus and are prized for their complex colors and structures. Resulting from global hybridization efforts, they offer larger, more interesting flower forms and complex color combinations than average landscape type cultivars, but also require more vigilant care.
- 🌸STURDY OWN-ROOT HYBRID: 'Creole Lady' is a modern hybrid of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis species developed by experienced hybridizers in Louisiana. It grows into a sturdy, upright bush that does not require grafting. The large, 7 to 9-inch ruffled flowers display a complex range of colors as they age, including lavender, pink, and gold. As flower form is affected by weather and maturity, this resilient variety performs best as a well-tended potted plant.
- 🤗 CARE & ENVIRONMENT: Repot into a 6 to 10-inch diameter pot with good drainage using quality, coarse, slightly acidic media. Locate in bright indirect light, protected from hot, direct sun. Maintain temperatures between 70°F and 90°F with a 10°F night/day variance. Ambient humidity of 60% to 80% is preferred. Maintain consistent moisture but avoid overwatering. This variety requires careful, attentive tending for successful growth.
